Our regular  Thursday walks restart on 2nd of May 2024, meeting at the Institute at 2pm.

Love It And List It 1st August
Ipswich has around 600 listed buildings - a phenomenal number for
a town of this size. We take a look at just a few of the town's
finest - maybe discovering a surprise or 2 along the way.

 Westside Story 8th August
Come & join us on a stroll to the West of Ipswich discover the
mysteries of the Ipswich Shrine, why a strange name was give to a
sculpture & our association with Nettuno in Italy are just a few of
the things you will discover on this walk.

Walking Through The History Of The Waterfront 15th August
Discover the maritime history of Ipswich from early times to
C21st as we wander along the Waterfront . The port was wealthy
trading centre for much of its history, repurposed as a modern
marina.

Corn To Coprolite 22nd August
Come and find out what the Harvest Supper was really all about ,
the true meaning of Going for a Burton , Ipswich's close association
with agriculture & what Coprolite is.

Sacred Spaces 29th August
A walk to explore and appreciate some of the fascinating churches
of Ipswich.

Saxons, Vikings, Normans! 5th Suptember
Discover the early history of Ipswich, hear about Prince Readvald,
our Anglo Saxon Founder, daring Viking raids and the Norman
invasion of our town. There's still so much to see !

Northern Ramble 12th September
A walk to the north of the town centre, outside the old town
ditches. Historic buildings,
beautiful churches and stories of some of the most important
families in the history of our town, including Cobbold and Ransome.

The Heart Of Ipswich 19th September
On this walk we will visit some Medieval churches, a 16th century Inn
and the Hotel made famous by Charles Dickens. We will admire the
Architecture built by the Victorian’s and hear about the history of
the town centre and the characters and people who shaped the
town.

Notable Women Of Ipswich 27th September
A walk to celebrate notable women who broke the mould throughout
Ipswich’s history. Hear about the busy wives of Tudor merchants
and some remarkable Victorians involved in archaeology, scientific
discoveries and setting up social charities.
